Creating an empty Combinator device

Either double click the device or drag and drop from the device palette to the rack.

This will create an empty Combinator. Empty Combinator devices can be used as a starting point when creating new Combi patches. It also allows you to browse for existing Combi patches.
Creating a Combinator by combining devices
You can create a Combinator device by combining existing devices:

The devices do not have to be adjacent in the rack.

This creates a Combinator device containing the devices that were selected according to the following rules:
Their internal order is not changed. Reason attempts to autoroute the first “input device” and first “output device” to the Combinator Mixer To/From Devices connectors - see “About internal and external audio connections”. Other connections are unchanged.

Creating a Combinator by browsing patches
Double clicking, or dragging & dropping a Combinator (.cmb) patch from the Browser to the rack will automatically create the Combinator device in the rack and load the selected patch.
